For example, MTN Zambia recognised the urgent need to go cashless to slow down the spread of the virus, hence, the organisation had zero-rated the mobile money transfer up to K150 and doubled the mobile money transaction limits in response to Covid-19
Jointly with the Commercial Bank, MTN Uganda, implemented emergency tariffs for 30 days: all person-to-person transactions below UGX30,000 were free, and this allowed customers to cashless modes of payment.
MTN Rwanda through its Foundation donated RWF 10 million to the Rwanda Biomedical Centre as it works to stop the spread of the coronavirus. It also offered free on-net calls among health workers for a period of 90 days and providing free media channel space (radio, TV, social media, SMS, Ring Back Tone, IVR platform) to promote the Ministry of Health’s messages.
