Description of KONDIARONK INTERNATIONAL

The KONDIARONK cooperative reaffirms its commitment to REMESA DIGNA 2025 from Barcelona, promoting financial inclusion, solidarity savings, and productive ventures for Latin American migrants. The main story/practice

Core Practice: REMESA DIGNA – Remittances Led by Migrant Women for Sustainable Development, Digitalization, and Financial Inclusion

Presented by: KONDIARONK INTERNATIONAL Cooperative Location: Barcelona, Spain Corridor: European Union – Latin America (Phase 1: European Union / Colombia)

KONDIARONK is a Barcelona-based international cooperative led by Latin American women working at the intersection of financial inclusion, migration, and cooperative development. The REMESA DIGNA initiative emerged in 2023/2024 and has been developing. It is an inclusive remittance model that seeks to transform traditional remittance flows into tools for long-term community development. The initiative serves Latin American (Colombian) migrants living in Europe and their families in Colombia, with the goal of expanding economic opportunities and social resilience through ethical and accessible financial services.

Why REMESA DIGNA?

Remittances play a crucial role in the livelihoods of millions of families around the world. In Colombia alone, remittances reached a record $11.8 billion in 2024 (IDB), surpassing foreign direct investment. However, for many families, remittances remain limited to covering immediate consumption needs. High transfer costs, limited access to digital services, and a lack of long-term financial planning continue to pose challenges for migrant households.

REMESA DIGNA was created to address these structural gaps. It integrates cooperative values—solidarity, equity, and participation—with financial innovation to maximize the development impact of remittances.

Main Components of REMESA DIGNA

Low-cost, digital transfers (card-to-card technology) Our platform enables real-time, card- to-card remittance transfers (money arrives in seconds) between Europe and Colombia, encouraging digital platform providers to offer fixed and transparent fees. By offering an instant exchange rate, we help families avoid currency fluctuations, generating real savings for both those who send and those who receive remittances. This digital channel improves accessibility, especially for women and rural families who face greater barriers in traditional banking systems.

Financial Education and Digital Literacy: We offer culturally appropriate training in financial planning, savings, and responsible credit use, aimed at both migrants in Europe and their families in These workshops are delivered through partner institutions and community networks and develop long-term financial skills and autonomy.

Productive Projects and Solidarity Savings: REMESA DIGNA is not just a transfer service, but a development We work with families to channel part of their remittances into productive initiatives (e.g., small farms, microenterprises) and collective solidarity savings groups. These mechanisms foster entrepreneurship, strengthen household resilience, and generate local employment.

Strategic Alliances: REMESA DIGNA is possible thanks to a strong network of allies:

  • In Colombia, we collaborate with the New America Higher Education Foundation (FESNA), an institution that trains ethical leaders with a deep commitment to social justice and sustainable community development.
  • We also work with the Community Action Boards of Cundinamarca, which provide local knowledge and connect us with rural families affected by migration.
  • In Europe (Spain), we collaborate with cooperatives such as COOPHALAL, BLOC4BCN, FONDO DALIA, COOPOLIS, CALALA, and SEIRA, and the Federation of Worker Cooperatives of Catalonia (CCT), which offer support in digital access, feminist economic strategies, intercultural outreach, and advise on scalable cooperative business.

Alignment with IDFR 2025 themes: REMESA DIGNA directly contributes to the IDFR 2025 campaign, which focuses on remittances as a source of financing for sustainable development. Specifically, it:

Expands access to affordable and secure remittance services through digital technology.

Reduces vulnerability by enabling the long-term use of remittances for savings, Income and productive investment.

Empowers diaspora communities to contribute to local development in their countries of origin.

Promotes inclusive and sustainable growth, in line with the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, especially goals 1, 5, 8, 10, and 17.

Achievements to date:

More than 300 migrant families have been involved in Europe and Colombia. We launched our first pilot digital remittance app with card-to-card functionality.

More than 15 financial education workshops were delivered with partners in both We gained international visibility through the United Nations Platform on Good Social Practices (2024).

Next Steps

In 2025, KONDIARONK will implement REMESA DIGNA by:

  • Once the pilot is completed in August 2025, launching the EU-Colombia corridor service on a massive Seeking funding to consolidate and strengthen the cooperative initiative, which has very limited resources.
  • Finding and forging partnerships with ethical digital financial providers that will contribute to reducing commission costs and integrating inclusive ethical credit
  • Promoting savings, investment, and community solidarity funds linked to remittances for sustainable development projects in both the host and origin territories
  • Participating in global advocacy events to share lessons learned and promote cooperative solutions.

REMESA DIGNA is more than a technical solution: it is a people-centered strategy that repositions migrants not only as senders of money, but also as agents of change. We believe that remittances should not only meet basic needs but also build futures.

By harnessing the power of cooperatives, financial innovation, and cross-border solidarity, KONDIARONK helps transform remittance flows into a collective force for sustainable development.

We are proud to contribute to the IDFR 2025 campaign and stand ready to collaborate, learn, and expand our impact with the global network working for financial justice and migrant empowerment.
